Dorothy Fayle
Epithet: Nurse in the Territorial Force Nursing Service
Record type: First World War Biographies
Biography: Dorothy Fayle was born in Douglas, the daughter of a gentleman's outfitter with his own business. She qualified as a nurse before the First World War, and in 1915 she joined the Territorial Force Nursing Service. She nursed at several hospitals on the Western Front, including No 15 Casualty Clearing Station near Bethune. Like many women of her generation, she never married, as so many eligible young men had perished in the war. However she remained proud of the fact that both British and German casualties in her wards received exactly the same standard of care. (Image ref: PG/13790/3).
